screenly/chrome-extension
The Screenly Chrome Extension is a Google Chrome add-on designed to simplify the process of adding content to Screenly digital signage displays. This open-source project, developed by Screenly, includes various features such as automated builds, linting, and code testing.
To install the extension, users can download it from the Chrome Web Store. For development, the extension is built using webpack, and the code is automatically rebuilt as changes are made. To distribute the extension, a script is provided to package and release it with a new version number.
Unit tests can be run locally to ensure the extension’s functionality. The tests are executed in Chrome by loading the extension as an unpacked extension from the dist
folder and opening the tests.html
file.
When ready for release, a new Git tag is created, and a new release is drafted on GitHub with the tag information and a changelog. The .zip
file for the release is downloaded from the CI job and uploaded to the Chrome Web Store Developer Dashboard for publishing.
