The Distribution project is an open-source toolset for packing, shipping, storing, and delivering content using the OCI Distribution Specification. This repository contains the implementation of the OCI Distribution Specification for storing and distributing container images and other content, as well as a rich set of libraries for interacting with distribution components. The project’s goal is to provide a simple, secure, and scalable base for building large-scale registry solutions or running simple private registries. It is used by popular registry operators such as Docker Hub, GitHub Container Registry, GitLab Container Registry, DigitalOcean Container Registry, CNCF Harbor Project, and VMware Harbor Registry. The Distribution project also has long-term goals of providing a secure toolchain for distributing content and designing a professional-grade and extensible content distribution system. Contributions, issues, and fixes can be submitted following the guidelines in the CONTRIBUTING.md file, and communication can take place in the #distribution channel on the CNCF Slack. The Distribution codebase is released under the Apache 2.0 license, while the README.md file and files in the “docs” folder are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
