The OpenTelemetry Astronomy Shop Demo is a microservice-based distributed system developed by the OpenTelemetry community to showcase the implementation and observability of OpenTelemetry in a near real-world environment. The project aims to provide a realistic example of a distributed system, serve as a base for vendors and tooling authors to extend and demonstrate their OpenTelemetry integrations, and create a living example for OpenTelemetry contributors to test new versions of the API, SDK, and other components. With ongoing development, the project aims to represent the full feature set of OpenTelemetry across its languages. Contributions and forking guidance are available, and the project is led by maintainers from Honeycomb, Datadog, and Dynatrace, among others. Demonstrations of the demo using various observability platforms are also available from vendors such as AlibabaCloud, Elastic, and New Relic, among others.
